Swifties converging on Crieff as schoolgirl’s family aims to recapture Eras Tour magic

Eight year-old Taylor Swift fan Arwen Hughes has persuaded her parents to put on a Taylor Swift fun day in Crieff

A Perthshire Taylor Swift fan is hoping to rekindle a little of the magic of last summer at a fun day dedicated to the star.

Arwen Hughes was only seven last year, and hadn’t yet earned her Swiftie stripes.

But that was before the Eras Tour had conquered the world, spreading Taylor Swift mania in its wake.

Now Arwen is eight, and a confirmed fan.

And so she and her family are throwing a celebration of all things Taylor in Crieff this weekend.

Saturday’s Taylor Swift Day at the MacRosty Park cafe will feature friendship bracelets, dressing up, face-painting, food and lots and lots of Taylor Swift music.

The singer herself might not be there in person. But Crieff’s own Lhamo Grace will be performing some of her songs.

And there’ll be cardboard cut-outs of Taylor Swift for anyone looking to snap a selfie or two.

Arwen’s mum Carys is billing it as “Crieff and possibly Scotland’s first ever Taylor Swift day”.

And the family are looking forward to welcoming Swifties young and old to the event from 11am.

“Arwen is a big Swiftie,” she said.

“She was a bit young for it all last year when the Eras Tour was on, so her dad and I thought it would be an idea to put on a Taylor Swift day in the park.

“Lots of people have said they’re coming. And I got a message this morning from a very trendy 80 year-old who is really keen too.

“If you like Taylor Swift’s music you’ll be welcome.”

Taylor Swift day part of bid to put cafe at heart of Crieff community

Carys and husband Derek reopened the pavilion cafe in Crieff’s MacRosty Park last summer.

The couple said at the time they had big plans to open up the council-owned space to the community.

Carys said: “We want the pavilion to be for everyone.”

They have already held a Star Wars themed day encouraged by Arwen’s twin brother Brodie.
