A St Andrews councillor has issued a “Humpty Dumpty” warning after three youths were caught scaling 30ft-high scaffolding in the town centre.
The daredevils’ antics, above Fisher and Donaldson on Church Street, damaged materials that will cost around £600 to replace or repair.
Footage of the June 17 incident, seen by The Courier, has been shared online.
It shows two of the youths climbing the scaffolding while a third films from near a chimney stack.
One worker said: “We had to return to assess the damage and carry out repairs.
“There were three youngsters involved and they dropped slates from around 30 or 40ft.
“They landed at the rear of Church Street.
“We believe they got up there just after the workers had finished for the day, climbing over a locked gate to gain access.
“In their infinite wisdom, they filmed it and put it online.
“We’re at breaking point with things like this – we know nothing will be done about it.”
‘Foolish and dangerous’ St Andrews scaffolding climb
Councillor Jane Ann Liston condemned the behaviour, describing it as “foolish and dangerous”.
She said: “Church Street properties are at least three storeys high.
“It’s incredibly foolish and dangerous to be climbing on scaffolding at that height.
“I would hope parents would be aware of what their children are up to – even at that age.
“I urge members of the public to report anything untoward.
“These types of incidents tend to happen every summer – youngsters think they’re indestructible.
“But as we all know from the story of Humpty Dumpty, someone could have a great fall.”
Police Scotland confirmed inquiries into the matter have been concluded.
A spokeswoman said: “Around 2.25pm on Wednesday June 18 we received a report of a vandalism to premises in Church Street, St Andrews.
“Inquiries have been conducted and any new information will be assessed and investigated as required.”
