Plans to bring power for one million homes onshore at Carnoustie from Scotland’s largest offshore windfarm have been approved.
Angus councillors have agreed planning permission for a massive infrastructure project that will see a 19km long cable buried from a landing point in Carnoustie to a substation at Tealing.
SSE-owned Seagreen Wind Energy plan to start construction work on the 100 turbine, £3billion windfarm off the Angus coast later this year.
The company predict the project will create around 400 jobs and have promised to prioritise Angus companies where possible.
Six community councils along the route will share a community fund of £1.8million.
Councillors highlighted the positive impact on the Angus economy, but said concerns remain about the disruption created by the cable project – which could take up to two years to complete.
