Seaton Grove residents in Arbroath have shared a special day with Christina Fisken after she celebrated her 100th birthday at the Angus nursing home.

Born in Barry, near Carnoustie where her father was a tenant farmer, Chrissie, nee Reid, went into service locally after leaving school.

She met her husband, George at the dancing in Dundee and he served with the Border Regiment during the Second World War, reaching the rank of Major.

The couple had four children, George, Stewart, Avril and Elaine, but sadly their oldest son was killed in an air accident a number of years ago.

Mr Fisken enjoyed a successful career as a pig farmer following his return from war and the couple eventually returned to Angus, where George worked for a spell at the Condor military base, near Arbroath and Chrissie spent a number of years catering in the canteen of BT’s Dundee premises.

Following their retiral, both became enthusiastic bowlers at Arbroath’s indoor rink and outdoor Lochlands club. A passion for Scottish country dancing also endured throughout their lives.

Chrissie, who was predeceased by her husband seven years ago when he was aged 94, has been a resident of Seaton Grove for the past few years.

Chrissie has 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and despite the coronavirus restrictions was able to enjoy a visit from some family members on her special day.

Her daughter, Elaine, who was unfortunately unable to attend the milestone said: “It is a shame and we are hoping to get up to see her soon, but she very much enjoys being at Seaton Grove and they have been absolutely wonderful.”
