A celebration is due in the Queen's honour at the castle on June 11.

An iconic Angus estate has organised events to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday next month.

Glamis Castle will mark the monarch’s milestone with an evening picnic and ceilidh on Saturday June 11.

This will be hosted by the 19th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne, Simon Bowes Lyon, who has invited estate workers and tenants, local residents and visitors to join him on the special occasion.

Glamis Castle was the late Queen Mother’s childhood home, and birthplace of the late Princess Margaret, younger sister to the Queen.

The Bowes Lyons retain close links with the royal family and the earl is looking forward to celebrating the day at the family home.

The grounds will open to picnickers at 5.30pm and they are asked to provide their own seating, rugs and suitable clothing along with food and drink.

Some cover will be available in the event of rain and a cash bar will be available in the castle grounds, along with a cocktail bar provided by the makers of Ogilvy Vodka.

Entertainment will be provided by the Forfar Pipe Band and Sandra Wright Dancers.

At night, the ceilidh will take place from 9pm to 11pm in the castle dining room with Scottish country dancing to suit all abilities, with the gates closing at midnight.

Tickets cost £5 and children 16 years and under are free but must be accompanied by an adult.
