An Angus man has been forced to clear out his garage — and some of his house — after winning a whopping £5,000-worth of tools.
John Starkey from Padanaram near Forfar won everything from a caulking gun to a £450 lawnmower.
He was taken aback when the equipment was delivered in a flat-bed lorry to his home after he won the competition which was run by Ryobi Tools.
John had already cleared out his garage ahead of the delivery but then had to start moving things out of his house as well to make room for the treasure trove.
John entered the competition after buying some equipment from B&Q but couldn’t believe it when he won.
A self-confessed jack of all trades, John is a hotelier and said the equipment had arrived at just the right time.
He’s about to take the lease for the Belmont Arms in Meigle and said the items would be put to good use.
“I got an email to tell me I’d won but I thought it was a joke,” he said.
“I’ve had to clear out my garage to make room for it all because it’s over 50 items.
“I’ve also had to move stuff out of the house to clear space — you wouldn’t believe how much there is.
“I’ve won everything from a lawnmower to a chainsaw and I’m as happy as Larry.”
John is well used to using such items as he’s been involved in renovations for many years.
He entered the competition just before Christmas but said it was really just a stab in the dark.
“I’ll use absolutely everything that I’ve won,” he said.
“It won’t go to waste and it is top of the range equipment.
“It’s the whole One+ range from Ryobi so it’s a very special prize.”
