Mr Lichfield on seeing his beautiful bride approach

This is the emotional moment an Angus groom broke down in tears as he watched his future wife walk down the isle at their wedding ceremony.

Arbroath man Rhys Litchfield was overwhelmed just minutes from tying the knot with his other half, Saffron, at Piperdam, near Fowlis, on Friday, August 11.

The video clip, taken by groomsman Jamie Smith, went viral after being shared widely across social media; and has amassed millions of views.

The 23-year-old ethical hacking student said he isn’t angry at the groomsman for taking the video, but described it as an “ugly cry”.

He added it was seeing just how stunning his bride looked that caused the floods of tears.

Mrs Litchfield, also 23, is a beautician and make-up artist.

“Saffron was running late so the anticipation was much worse,” said Mr Litchfield.

“When the curtains opened I was overwhelmed by how beautiful she was, I could not hold back my emotions, which can lead to me having an ugly cry.

“I was however very surprised to see the video go viral. Some comments are very nice, but some are not. All the people who congratulated me have my thanks.

Rhys starts to break down, unknown to the wedding party

“It was very strange and unbelievable but the internet makes everything easier when it comes to this type of thing.

“It’s not often you see a male cry at moments like the one in the video.

“It baffles me as why some people think men should not be allowed to show emotions as I did.

“Our families both won’t stop messaging us about how far the video has travelled, so I would say they are enjoying it more than us.

“The day was absolutely perfect for us both. Unfortunately our cake was dropped by the staff, but it was still more than we could have hoped for.”

The couple are now enjoying their honeymoon in Thailand.
