Arbroath inshore lifeboat (ILB) was called to the assistance of two kayakers while out on a routine exercise on Saturday.
A third man, also in a kayak, had stopped to provide assistance to the pair who had got into difficulty north of Carlingheugh Bay, known locally as the Flairs, after one the kayaks had capsized and filled with water.
The lifeboat crew took both men and their kayaks aboard the lifeboat and took them to Auchmithie where they had originally launched their boats.
Speaking after the rescue, Kyle Bailey, Arbroath ILB helm said: “The pair were lucky and should be thankful to the passing gentleman who stopped to help.
“They weren’t very well equipped and the male who had entered the water wasn’t wearing a life jacket.
“We would always advise wearing a life jacket and carrying a means of calling for help.”
