Forfar Rotary Club is considering pulling the plug on its flower bed at the Boyle Park after repeated acts of vandalism by “mindless idiots”.
The club was among nine groups which sponsored a bed at the Glamis Road entrance to the public park four years ago.
Members, led by Sandy Ogilvie, have planted and tended the plot every year but have become increasingly dismayed by damage caused to their displays.
On their Facebook page they said: “Sad to report that, despite the planting out of the flower bed at the Boyle Park to enhance the entrance, the Rotary Club of Forfar may well quit any further involvement.
“Tending it at least once a week is a case of trying to keep it nice due to mindless idiots running over it and even riding bikes through it.
“Those responsible should be happy to live in a town like Forfar and be proud to do so.
“Civic pride may sound old fashioned to some but Forfar Rotary and other organisations do their best for the community.”
Rotarian Ian Findlay said there had been a number of issues at the bottom end of the park near the Glamis Road in the vicinity of the former lodge, which is now boarded up.
He said: “We are not quitters but it is getting to the stage Sandy dreads going into the park in the morning because of what he may find.
“People are beginning to think, if it keeps getting vandalised, is it worthwhile?
“We have seen plants pulled out in other beds.
“The boarded up lodge is lying empty and it seems to be attracting vandals.”
He added the Rotary was aware the damage was being done by a “mindless few”.
Eleanor Gledhill, who was instrumental in attracting groups to take on a flower bed, explained the voluntary group Forfar In Flower now tends the beds which have been neglected.
She said: “We get the odd bit of vandalism at the Boyle Park but we have been looking after the flower beds for four years.
“The nicer we make the beds, the less vandalism we get.
“We really struggle to get groups to take on a wee flower bed, they are only two metres square, it’s not a big deal.
“I would encourage everyone to get behind this.”

A spokesperson for Angus Council said: “Any instance of vandalism is regrettable.
“The council is currently looking to market the lodge which is an attractive, historic building.”
