Plans have been unveiled for a multi-million pound retail development which would transform the gateway to Arbroath and create hundreds of jobs.

Proposals have been submitted to Angus Council for the project at the former Presentation Products site at the Elliot Industrial Estate.

Developers said a number of big-name national companies are lining up to move into the units on the Dundee Road site and it is hoped a significant number of full and part-time jobs could be created as demand for the purpose-built retail units in the area grows.

The team behind the proposal, which includes food, non-food and drive through units, describe it as an opportunity to bring employment back to the site, whilst creating a new and improved retail offer for Arbroath and Angus.

They have lodged a proposed application notice with Angus Council ahead of a public consultation period.

Andrew Dandie, partner at property consultants Graham & Sibbald, said: “We are excited to be bringing forward proposals for a new retail development at this key gateway location.

“We believe this site can significantly enhance the retail offer in Arbroath, whilst providing new employment opportunities on what is currently a vacant site.”

Those behind the plans are hopeful the development will attract new, big-name businesses to the area.

Mr Dandie continued: “We have been very encouraged by the initial discussions with national operators, who currently have no presence in the town, regarding future retail opportunities in Arbroath.

“By widening the retail offer in the town, we can help to meet this demand, with the potential economic impact a real boost for both Arbroath and the wider Angus area.

“The development team look forward to engaging with the community over the coming weeks and presenting our plans to them.”

Full details for the proposals for the site, which has been unoccupied since 2016, will go on view at a public consultation event at Hospitalfield House from 3-7pm on Thursday September 20.

Members of the development team will be on hand to answer questions and provide further information.

Following this event and ongoing discussions with key stakeholders, a formal planning application will be submitted to Angus Council in October 2018.
