The search is on for former Angus Guides and Brownies who braved the elements to raise money to construct a new hut near Forfar more than 50 years ago.
In 1968, the organisation boasted more than 2,000 members across the area, the vast majority of whom took part in a mass sponsored walk over two weekends.
Their efforts were rewarded when the hut was completed in 1969.
With the building celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, organisers are inviting anyone who took part in the walk to join them at a special golden jubilee celebration in June.
Mary Ramsay, chairwoman of the jubilee committee, said: “We had a huge sponsored walk to raise funds to build the hut, with the Guides walking 14 miles, while the Brownies walked three miles – although the roads were much quieter back then.
“The total cost of the building was just over £5,500, and of that, £2,110, quite a significant sum in those days, was raised by those taking part in the walk.
“Since its construction, many people have enjoyed the use of the hut at Ladenford and it would be fantastic for them to come along and share in the anniversary celebration.”
The building, which is fully accessible, is surrounded by extensive woodlands and has been extended twice over the years.
Some of the original fundraisers might be impressed at the facilities now on offer at Ladenford, which boasts a dishwasher, two cookers, two fridges and freezer.
Today, the Brownies and Guides movement, along with the Rainbows for five to seven year olds remains strong in the county, and although numbers have dipped slightly from 2,000 half a century ago, the organisations still boast around 1,400 members today.
Mary Ramsay said: “Of course, a lot has changed over the past 50 years, but guiding remains very relevant and has a lot to offer.
“We run exciting events, and also offer the chance to learn new skills and personal development, as well as the opportunity to make new friends too.”
