An Angus artist is throwing open her studio and garden to raise money for charity after losing her brother to cancer.
Trish Winton from Montrose lost her brother, John Archbold, to prostate cancer, and is hoping to raise money for the “amazing” nurses who cared for him.
Mr Archbold, an accountant and former director of Montrose FC, was a well-known and respected figure in the county.
Ms Winton said: “John lived for a year after his diagnosis, and passed away aged just 64, but the staff at Roxburghe House who cared and supported him were just amazing, and it would be great to give something back, so we are collecting for MacMillan Cancer Support.”
Trish is a qualified garden designer, and both she and her husband Andy, are keen gardeners who have previously opened their quarter acre garden to the public as part of the Scotland’s Garden Scheme.
The garden has been transformed from what “looked like a building site”, into a carefully planned garden with a number of themed ‘rooms’, including one with a Mediterranean influence.
A special part of the garden has an oriental theme, and was planted in memory of Trish’s son David Wyllie who was tragically killed in a road accident in Thailand, aged just 36, in 2015, leaving behind his young son William.
Visitors will also be able view an exhibition of Ms Winton’s contemporary artwork.
She said: “I took up art after I retired, and worked from the spare room, but my paintings started to sell, so we built a studio in the garden.
“My artwork will also be available for purchase over the open weekend, and any proceeds from these sales will go towards the MacMillan fundraising total.”
Refreshments will be available on the day, and visitors can make a donation in person, or those who are unable to attend, but would like to donate, can visit the Just Giving page for the event.
A £500 fundraising target was set, and the couple have revealed that they have already attracted donations of over £360.
The garden and studio will be open over the weekend of Friday May 3 to Sunday May 5 between 1pm and 4pm at 17 Renny Crescent, Montrose, DD10 9BW.
