Police probe over unexplained death in Forfar

Castle Street, Forfar.
Castle Street, Forfar.

Inquiries into an unexplained death in an Angus town continued over the weekend.

Police said they were investigating after an individual, believed to be an elderly local man, was found dead at a detached house on Strathmore Avenue, Forfar.

Police were called to the property at about 1pm on Friday and have said the death is not believed to be suspicious.

Neighbours said officers carried out door-to-door inquiries over the weekend .

Officers remained outside a property at Strathmore Avenue throughout Saturday, although neither the street, nor the address at the centre of the probe were cordoned off

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said there had been significant activity in and around the property since Friday afternoon.

He said: “The forensics have been on the scene for the than 24 hours now. There has been a lot of coming and going and everyone that’s going in is wearing gloves. They have been focusing on the door to the property. There have been lots of pictures taken.

“I can’t understand why there is so much activity going on. They are doing a very thorough job,” he added.

A second neighbour confirmed the continued police presence in the area.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said on Friday that the death was being treated as unexplained.

When asked about the continuing police presence at the property, a second spokesman reiterated the death was not suspicious.

He said: “We have nothing more to add to what we have said on this incident previously.”
