Car buffs are queueing up for a place in this weekend’s record-breaking Scottish Transport Extravaganza at Glamis Castle.
The two-day annual event is Scotland’s premiere vintage motoring spectacular and one of the largest in the UK.
With more than 1,800 entries, organisers Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club put a waiting list in place for the first time.
Every era and type of vehicle will be represented at Glamis, from pedal cycles and steam engines to mighty military machinery and gleaming examples of cars from down the decades.
Event administrator Lesley Munro said enthusiasm for the 45th running of the event had given organisers the welcome headache of trying to fit everyone in.
“Glamis Castle provides a magnificent backdrop to our event and we keep hitting record totals, with the entry up by around 200 vehicles this year. For the first time we’ve put a waiting list in place to try and accommodate some of those who missed out when the entries closed.
“There is definitely a stronger contingent coming from England and we are also seeing more entries from the north of Scotland, which is also something that’s been a bit of a trend in the past few years.
“It’s good to bring new people to Glamis to be part of the Extravaganza and hopefully encourage them to stay in Angus and spend more time here.”
The bumper field will also feature the pride and joy of members in 65 car clubs, including enthusiasts celebrating special anniversaries of two well-known marques, equally famous but at opposite ends of the automotive spectrum.
“The 60th anniversary of the Mini Cooper is being celebrated, and Bentley is 100 years old so there are special club displays being put on for those anniversaries. All of the club stands are always well supported and a bid attraction,” Lesley added.
Main ring entertainment will include the first Glamis visit of motorcycle stunt rider Flyin Ryan and the Extravaganza runs from 9am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
