Jail for Dundee chef who forced hand down woman’s trousers to ‘check if she had cheated’

Darren Ogilvie.
Darren Ogilvie.

A Dundee chef who launched an “appalling” attack on his former partner and a child has been jailed for four years.

Darren Ogilvie, 36, sexually assaulted the woman by trying to force his hand down her trousers and underwear to “check if she had cheated”.

He also spat on her face, tore a chunk out of her hair, stamped on her head, repeatedly seized her by the body, grabbed her throat, pinned her against a wall and punched her on the head and body.

Ogilvie admitted carrying out the attack and also pled guilty to a further charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, refusing to let the woman leave a property and demanding she allow him to inspect her private parts for evidence of sexual activity.

The brutal attack, which took place at St Mungo’s Terrace on June 28, was witnessed by a “screaming” toddler, Dundee Sheriff Court was told.

An older child who also witnessed the incident tried to intervene and was assaulted by Ogilvie, who seized the teenager by the throat and pinned her against a wall.

In the lead-up to the incident, Ogilvie had spent the whole day drinking alcohol at a friend’s house, the court heard.

She then went to work and received a number of text messages by him, talking about their relationship.

When she came home she found Ogilvie hiding in her bathroom and he attacked her when she refused to allow him to inspect her.

Neighbours heard the commotion and came to the woman’s aid, after which police were called.

The woman suffered a number of injuries including a black eye, a burst lip, bruising on her hip, missing hair and facial injuries.

As well as having to serve a four year jail sentence, Ogilvie will be on supervision for two years upon release.

He will have to report any relationship with a female to the authorities and will not be allowed to use a mobile phone without supervision.

Ogilvie was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life and will be subject to a ten year non-harassment order banning him from contacting or approaching the victims.

He will further be required to undergo alcohol and drug treatment.

Sheriff Thomas Hughes said: “What happened was appalling and nobody should have to suffer that.”

As he was led away to the cells brazen Ogilvie winked, smirked and waved at the woman he had abused, who was in the public gallery to see him being jailed.
