Seven people have been banned from all oil vessels in Scotland after they appeared in court accused of scaling a Dundee rig on Monday.
The group appeared in private on petition at the city’s Sheriff Court on Tuesday afternoon
The three women and four men are accused of acting in a “disorderly manner” by navigating an inflatable boat to board, or assist others to board, an oil platform without permission.
Alison Orr, 27, of Blackness Road, Dundee; Marco Tenconi, 23 from Hartington Place, Edinburgh; Guy Bowen, 31 of Langside Road, Glasgow; Federico Pastoris, 24, of Wright’s Houses, Edinburgh; Mark Quinn, 21, of Hammerfield Avenue, Aberdeen; Fiona Cormie, 25, of Gardener’s Cottage, Nairn, and Joanne Venables, 35, of Hartington Place, Edinburgh are accused of causing disruption and inconvenience to lawful users of Dundee harbour and a breach of the peace.
The seven accused made no plea or declaration.
All seven, who are aged between 21 and 35, were bailed but they have been ordered to stay away from any oil vessels in Scotland.
Bowen, Quinn, Cormie and Orr were also banned from entering the city of Edinburgh between January 12, 13, 14 and 15.
Only one of the accused, Alison Orr, 27, of Blackness Avenue is from Dundee.
Six of the accused also face charges of carrying a lock knife without reasonable excuse or lawful authority.
Environmental pressure group Extinction Rebellion has claimed responsibility for a stunt at the port of Dundee on Monday.
Emergency services inclining police, the coastguard and ambulance were called to the area at lunchtime on Monday.
A helicopter belonging to the UK Coastguard also attended the incident, which ended shortly after 5pm when high winds ended the demonstration.
Extinction Rebellion is a global, grassroots organisation whose members have staged a series of high-profile stunts since the group was founded in 2018.
It uses civil disobedience in a bid to force governments to take action to address climate change.
There is no centralised leadership of the group and any organisation which adheres to its aims and principles can lay claim to the Extinction Rebellion.
