An Angus man who launched an “anti-ginger” tirade against a female motorist has been slapped with a fine.

Antony Boulton from Forfar lost his temper with the woman after pulling in front of her at a town junction and forcing her to brake repeatedly.

The 50-year-old got out of his Vauxhall Insignia and repeatedly called Ann Peters a “Scottish ginger” after stopping in front of her.

Boulton appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court and admitted careless driving and a racially-aggravated breach of the peace in Academy Street on September 23 last year.

Depute fiscal Kirsten Thomson said: “The accused was shouting repeatedly at Ms Peters.

“Ms Peters did not retaliate or get out of her vehicle.”

Officers interviewed Boulton on September 26 and he was cautioned and charged the next day.

Defence agent Brian Bell said: “He (the accused) shouldn’t have got out of his car. He apologises to the court for his silly comments.”

Fining Boulton £540 and adding five penalty points to his licence, Sheriff Pino Di Emidio told him he was “old enough to know better”.

Boulton, of Kings Road, admitted driving without care or attention, repeatedly braking suddenly and causing other vehicles to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

He also admitted causing a breach of the peace at the same place and time, shouting and swearing at Ms Peters and uttering racial comments to her.
