‘I felt quite dirty’ — Fife man was already on Register when he assaulted male, court told

Robert Burns

A man has admitted sexually assaulting another male after going round to his house in Glenrothes to watch football.

Robert Burns, formerly of Caskieberran Road, had been invited in to watch the European Championships game in July.

Burns had denied the assault but midway through his trial, he admitted seizing one of the householders by the buttocks on his way into the property.

His victim, a 30-year-old man who cannot be named, gave evidence before Sheriff James Williamson.

He explained he, Burns and others had been watching the match and the accused left the property to return home briefly.

When he came back, the complainer and another person were in the kitchen and he touched the man’s buttocks for a few seconds.

The complainer said: “I was standing making cups of coffee and he’s walked in the back door and grabbed a hold of my bum with both hands.

“He grabbed my bum with both hands and walked right past me and into the living room.”

The man told defence solicitor Kerr Sneddon Burns had not told him he was gay.

“I didn’t take it as a joke,” he said.

“Touching someone’s bum, that’s not a joke.

“I knew that he had problems.

“How’s a guy supposed to report being touched up by another guy?”

The man waited weeks to report the incident to police, after consulting with a social worker.

“I felt quite dirty. I didn’t feel the same for a while.”

After both the complainer and a witness gave evidence, Burns admitted the sexual assault.

Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard Burns is already on the Sex Offenders Register.

53-year-old Burns was released on bail and will be sentenced on January 14.

The sheriff ordered reports to be prepared before his next hearing.
