Drink-driver almost ran over pedestrian on Perth street

A drink-driver nearly struck a pedestrian after mounting a pavement in a Perth street.

Christopher Reid sped through the city’s Tulloch area in a Mercedes Benz while under the influence, Perth Sheriff Court heard.

The 36-year-old later refused to let police breathalyse him.

Reid, from Menzies Court, Perth, is already banned from driving.

He was disqualified earlier this year after he refused to comply with officers when they pulled over his BMW in the city’s Tulloch Road on New Year’s Day.

Narrowly missed pedestrian

Reid appeared in court on Tuesday and admitted driving a Mercedes Benz C200 dangerously along Cooper Drive, while under the influence of alcohol on October 30 2020.

He drove at excessive speed while approaching a mini-roundabout and braked hard to avoid crashing.

On Menzies Court, he mounted and travelled along a pavement, narrowly missing a pedestrian.

The court heard that later that same day, he refused to give two samples of breath to police at Dundee HQ.

Solicitor Paul Ralph confirmed his client was disqualified from driving until next year.

Sheriff Donald Ferguson said: “This is an extremely serious combination of factors.

“I will need to call for reports.”

Custody hearing

In January, Reid appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court and admitted failing to cooperate with a roadside breath test, without reasonable excuse.

He failed to give his name, address and date of birth to police.

Reid also pleaded guilty to breaking a bail condition by being with a woman who the court had previously ordered him to stay away from.
