Two women are to stand trial accused of robbing an 81-year-old woman at an Edinburgh Woollen Mill outlet after “striking her on the body and placing a piece of fabric over her face”.
Senada Petrova and Nadezhda Taneva allegedly attacked Marlene Jones at the shop in St Andrews Market Street earlier this year.
The pair are said to have robbed her of a handbag containing £850 in cash, a mobile phone, and a purse and its contents.
Prosecutors say Petrova and Taneva pushed against her body, struck her on the body then placed a piece of fabric over her face before robbing her.
Petrova, 22, and Taneva, 32, both prisoners at HMP Polmont, deny a charge on indictment of assault and robbery allegedly committed on February 24 this year.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael continued the case to a jury trial sitting next month at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Meanwhile, police are reiterating their appeal to people in St Andrews to check their bank balances after a skimming device was discovered on a cash machine in the town.
The device was fitted to the Barclays ATM in Market Street and there are fears that people who may have used the device prior to last Friday may have had money taken from their accounts.
Sergeant Neil Johnston from St Andrews police station said that inquiries were continuing in a bid to identify those responsible.
