A janitor has been placed on the sex offenders register for filming two children having sex on the grounds of a Dundee secondary school.
Graeme Strachan admitted recording the youngsters – aged 13 and 14 – on his mobile phone before sharing the footage with friends.
The video of the children was later “widely circulated” on social media, Dundee Sheriff Court was told.
Strachan, 50, said to police: “I know why you are here. It’s about what happened at the school.”
It was revealed how Strachan was identified because of the vantage point where the filming took place.
CCTV from the secondary school, where Strachan worked, pictured him leaving with a mobile phone in his hand.
Filmed from inside the school
Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin said the two children had arranged to meet at the school grounds at 6am.
Mrs Gilmartin said: “They engaged in consensual sexual intercourse on a bench in the playground.
“Although a public place, given the time of morning there was an expectation from the children this was a private act.
“On August 3 2023 a recording of the teenagers engaging in sexual activity was widely circulated on the internet.
“The children were not aware that they had been recorded.
“This, naturally, caused them upset and the matter was reported to the police.”
The video was taken from someone in an “elevated position” and police suspected it had been someone within the school building.
The school cannot be named for legal reasons.
Charged with voyeurism
CCTV was interrogated and Strachan was viewed going into a room that would have given him that vantage point.
Strachan, of Balunie Avenue, told officers who arrested him that he was not responsible for sharing the video on the on the internet but had sent it to two friends.
He pled guilty to voyeurism by clandestinely recording the children having sex on July 27 2023 as well as a separate charge of distributing indecent images of children.
Prosecutors deleted a part of that charge which stated Strachan shared the video on Snapchat.
Solicitor Anika Jethwa reserved mitigation until the next calling of the case when a social work report would be available.
Sentence was deferred until next month by Sheriff David Hall who made Strachan subject to the sex offender’s register.
