A motorist who left his passenger with a broken neck when his car spun on the motorway in Stirlingshire has had his curfew converted to a fine.

Rhys Law reached speeds of up to 125mph shortly before his car spun out in “horrific” weather and hit a tree.

Last October the 22-year-old admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving on the A876 and M876 on July 6 2023.

He was originally disqualified from driving for four years and placed on a curfew for 12 months.

However, the court heard this week there were unspecified “tensions” as a result of the restriction of liberty order.

Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney converted it to a £700 fine.

Sick ‘MarriedFather’ chat

A Stirling paedophile who chatted to a “14-year-old girl” under the username “MarriedFather” has been placed on the sex offender’s register for five years.

David MacKay believed he was talking to a teenager called Sophie but he was actually being snared by an undercover police officer.

He asked the “girl” for photos of her in her school uniform after telling her “I’m so turned on”.

The 32-year-old previously admitted attempting to communicate indecently with a child at his home address in November last year.

Solicitor Alastair Ross, defending, told the court: “He presents as a man who has recognised the error of his ways.

”He presents as remorseful and his life has been upturned as a consequence of this.”

Sheriff Paul Ralph told him: “This might have been a mistake on drinking at night but its quite a sustained mistake – the conversation goes on for some time and involves you asking for photos from the other end.”

He placed him on a two-year supervision order and imposed 113 hours of unpaid work.

Additionally Mackay must not have contact with anyone under the age of 16 in his home and must not delete his internet browsing history..

Locked in home

A man who locked his wife inside their house following an argument has admitted abusing her.

Jibi Varghese grabbed the woman by her clothing and dragged her into another room during the confrontation.

After he refused to allow her to leave the property for work, the alarm was raised by one of her colleagues, who called police to their St Ninian’s home.

The 38-year-old admitted engaging in a course of conduct that was abusive of his wife on March 2 and April 2 this year.

His solicitor said the trained electrical engineer had been unable to find work in that line of employment and that was part of the reason for rising tensions in the family home.

She said Varghese had left the property to cool off and it was usual to lock the door.

Varghese was placed on a structured deferred sentence.
