A terrified couple have told how they locked themselves in their bedroom when her raging ex-husband turned up at their home and smashed up their car with a shovel.
Alistair Douglas, who ranted about having a knife, attacked two neighbours who tried to restrain him before being dramatically wrestled to the ground by police.
The horrifying incident at Scone on Sunday night was caught on camera.
The 37-year-old Scotrail worker had previously pled guilty to attending at his ex’s home in Scone uninvited in November last year, making threats and menacing phone calls, before throwing a traffic cone at one of her windows.
He was hauled back to the dock this week where he admitted breaching bail conditions by returning to his former partner’s home on June 15.
“It’s terrifying knowing he has tried this twice now,” the ex-wife’s new partner told The Courier.
‘Highly intoxicated’
Prosecutor Elizabeth Hodgson told the court Douglas had been spotted in the area by a member of the public.
“He was highly intoxicated and was slurring his words,” she said.
He appeared to be holding a shovel or a knife, the court heard.
At about 10pm, the ex-partner was at home with her new boyfriend when they heard a commotion outside.
The boyfriend told us: “We were watching TV when we heard a smash at the door.
“We instantly knew it was him.
“We checked on the Ring doorbell and saw him smashing our car up with a shovel.”
He said he heard Douglas shout: “I’ve got a knife”.
“We called 999 and ran upstairs and locked ourselves in the bedroom, terrified.”
Two neighbours ran over to try and restrain Douglas.
He assaulted both of them, struggling with one and brandishing the shovel while punching the second man to the face leaving him badly hurt.
It took four police officers to hold him on the ground, before leading him into custody.
When he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court the next day, he pled guilty to breaching bail conditions and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and two charges of assault.
The boyfriend said: “We have been living in fear for the last six months.
“This has brought it back to us even harder.
“It’s terrifying as he seems capable of anything.”
Prosecutors had asked for Douglas to be remanded in custody ahead of sentencing next month.
Sheriff Allan Findlay placed Douglas on a bail curfew, ordering him to stay home between 7pm and 7am each night.
“If you breach any of these conditions, you will be in the jail,” he told him.
Douglas, of Stormont Road, Scone, is still also to be sentenced for the original offence.
