A man who detained a woman in a Dundee flat to subject her to a brutal attack has been jailed and banned from starting any new relationships without telling social workers.
Charles Bertie, 43, was sent to prison for 18 months and had a further nine months supervised release order imposed at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Sheriff George Way told him he would not be allowed to form any new “intimate or sexual relationship” without informing his supervising officer.
The court previously heard Bertie abducted the woman and held her against her will for a sustained period.
Bertie, from Dundee, admitted subjecting her to a sustained assault and injuring her between August 10 and 11 last year.
He admitted detaining her, obstructing her exit and punching her on the shoulder.
Bertie pinned the woman on the ground, repeatedly pulled her hair and repeatedly punched her on the body.
She was pushed against walls and had her wrists and breast seized.
Solicitor Gary Fowlis told the court his client still has a relationship with the : complainer.
“There has been continued contact between them throughout. He was struggling with low mood at the time.”
Sheriff Way said: “It’s a very grave offence and whether or not he is maintaining a relationship with the complainer it must have been very, very frightening.”
In May 2020, drug addict Bertie was jailed for four months for assaulting a police officer by biting him on the finger.
The same court heard Bertie had failed to break the skin on PC Steven Rae’s finger because he was missing his front teeth due to methadone use.
