A brute who carried out a savage attack on his “terrified” ex-partner at her Dundee home was branded a “danger to the public” and jailed for three years.
Kevin Ogg was clutching a glass bottle when he beat the woman as she lay in her hallway.
The woman feared Ogg was going to kill her and suffered a fractured cheekbone at his hands.
Sentencing, Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith said: “What is reprehensible is while vulnerable on the ground and unable to defend herself, you decided to punch her into the face repeatedly while shouting you were going to kill her while armed with a bottle.”
Ogg, 46, has a history of violence having previously spent time in jail for an assault with a knife and was locked up in October 2024 for an offence against the same woman.
He was subject to bail orders to stay away from her at the time of the assault at her home in Dundee last September.
Terrifying attack
Dundee Sheriff Court heard the woman was about to get out of bed at around 8am when she heard Ogg aggressively banging at the door.
He shouted: “Open the f*****g door. Where were you last night?”
The thug threatened to break the glass panel at the top of the door and all went quiet until he returned with a glass bottle.
Ogg said: “I’m going to put this bottle through the window if you don’t let me in.”
“She was frightened and opened the door,” fiscal depute Lee Corr added.
“He pushed her to the floor as he entered the hallway.
“While she was on the floor, the accused punched her to the face at least twice.
“She started kicking out but the accused struck her repeatedly with the glass bottle to her legs and arms.”
Mr Corr said Ogg began “pacing” around her home before saying: “You better lock that door. I’m going to kill you.”
The prosecutor added: “She believed he would kill her and she was terrified.”
She fled to a neighbour’s home while bleeding, with Ogg’s father later posting mobile phones his son had stolen from her.
The woman now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and endured numerous hospital appointments for her injuries
Sentencing
Ogg, a prisoner at HMP Perth, admitted threatening the woman before assaulting her to her severe injury and permanent impairment on September 19 last year at an address in Dundee.
He also admitted stealing the items.
Guilty pleas had previously been tendered on the morning Ogg was due to stand trial before a jury.
Ogg produced a different version of events in a social work interview with the court hearing how he had hours to “ruminate” after an apparent argument with the woman the night before.
Solicitor Jim Caird said his client was “ashamed” of his behaviour and understood a jail sentence was inevitable.
The court was previously told how the woman had been his support worker prior to the pair entering a relationship.
Sheriff Niven-Smith, who described Ogg as a “danger to the public”, sentenced him to three years in prison which would be backdated to September last year.
He imposed a 10-year non-harassment order as well as a supervised release order lasting 12 months.
