A Montrose woman has been placed on a curfew after repeatedly stabbing a drinking buddy on the leg.
Jade Johnstone previously pled guilty to severely injuring the man in an assault on October 14 in 2023.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard Johnstone, the man and another male were in a property in Little Nursery, Montrose at 12.30am and her victim had been drinking vodka.
Following a disagreement between the men, the victim began to put his shoes on to leave.
Johnstone, 38, appeared from the kitchen with a knife and stabbed the man multiple times.
He made it to Montrose police office and was taken to hospital.
Medics at Ninewells found flesh protruding from a laceration on the man’s lower right leg and noted flesh was lost from a cut on his right shin.
Another smaller laceration was found on his left leg.
Officers found Johnstone at 5am and she was wearing a top stained with her victim’s blood.
She pled guilty to assaulting the man to his severe injury and was placed on an 8pm to 8am curfew as a direct alternative to imprisonment.
Dogs left to die
Five dogs died of starvation or had to be put down after being left to suffer in a Dundee “house of horrors”.
The petrified American Bulldog and Shar Pei-type-cross dogs roamed a disgusting, rubbish-laden home for months without adequate food and water.
Stacey Harris, 39, admitted neglecting the dogs at her former home in the Linlathen area between August and October 2024.
Some of the animals were eating the carcasses of puppies in squalid conditions.
Mother-of-two Harris was remanded following the hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court, with Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith saying if she was liberated, people may seek to “exact revenge” in the same way they might on people who committed offences against children.
Holiday plea
A 27-year-old man caught with an axe in a Dundee multi failed in his bid to have a curfew lifted so he could go on holiday.
Leo Connelly admitted possessing the weapon without a reasonable excuse while on one of the floors of Elders Court on May 6 2024.
Connelly was also in breach of a 10pm until 7am curfew at the time of the offence.
He pled guilty to two charges, which had been reduced to summary complaint from petition, at Dundee Sheriff Court.
In 2023, Connelly was ordered to perform 225 hours of unpaid work for an assault to injury with a bottle at jury level.
Solicitor Kevin Hampton asked Sheriff John Rafferty to consider removing the curfew, which was imposed on April 26 2024.
The lawyer said: “There’s a holiday booked. That’s been booked when he’s on a curfew.
“It’s more the time he’s been subject to the curfew than the holiday.”
Sheriff Rafferty told Connelly: “I appreciate the period of time but you have a significant sheriff and jury conviction that’s less than two years old.
“You have now pled guilty to having an axe. I am not inclined to remove the curfew conditions.”
Connelly will be sentenced next month once a social work report has been compiled.
Footballer in street brawl
Former Arbroath footballer Dylan Paterson has admitted his role in a violent street brawl in Stirling city centre on Christmas Day.
Two men were severely injured in the gang attack on Baker Street in 2023.
Paterson, 25 appeared in the dock alongside 20-year-old co-accused Aaron Brown.
They admitted, while with acting with others, assaulting a 40-year-old man to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment.
Brown further pled guilty to an assault on a 29-year-old man to his severe injury during the same incident.
Paterson arrived at Arbroath in 2021, having risen through the U17 ranks at Dundee Utd and Rangers, where he played alongside Scotland star Billy Gilmour.
Not the usual
An Angus dad who stashed tens of thousands of pounds worth of cannabis has been jailed for 20 months.
Kyle Wyer, 32, admitted being concerned in the supply of the drugs but his solicitor explained the operation did not come with the hallmarks of typical commercial drug enterprises.
Forfar Sheriff Court previously heard raided a property in Kinnaird Street, Arbroath, on October 14 2022 and Wyer admitted he had herbal cannabis there, which he said was for his mental health and so he could provide financially for his children.
Multiple bags of cannabis and sums of cash were scattered throughout and scales, a grinder and a devil press were recovered.
In total, the seized drugs weighed 2.225kg and were valued at between £12,670 and £29,120.
Solicitor Nick Whelan said: “This is the first offence of a drug-related nature.
“Up until this happened, he’s gone a number of years as a responsible parent.
“He turned to using cannabis personally to deal with his own medical difficulties.
“There was no tick list, no evidence of people attending at the property to purchase drugs or the usual surrounding circumstances that one would expect.
“They were packed in rather unusual weights as well.”
Mr Whelan said of the £1,820 discovered, £1,420 was savings for a holiday and £480 was tips from Wyer’s food delivery driving job.
Wyer, now of Kestral Place in Montrose, appeared in the dock to be sentenced aided by a single crutch and carrying a bag of clothing.
Sheriff Mark Thorley told Wyer, now of Kestral Place in Montrose: “The sum involved here is simply far too great.
“It is an enormous amount of cannabis involved here and you have pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of this drug.”
Relaxed in the dock
A Perth man who caused a disturbance at a local hotel was chided by a sheriff for his laid back appearance in the dock.
“You are looking very relaxed for someone who has pleaded guilty to something that is not a minor offence,” Sheriff Clair McLachlan told Liam Gillilan.
The 23-year-old admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Murrayshall Country House Hotel on January 30 2025.
Court papers show he shouted, swore and made derogatory remarks towards a woman there.
He followed her into her workplace and repeatedly attempted to talk to her, while refusing to leave when asked.
Gillilan then pestered the same woman with repeated calls and messages.
Prosecutors accepted that the charge was not domestically aggravated.
Gillilan, of Sidey Place, also admitted a breach of bail conditions.
Sentence was deferred until next month.
