A drug dealer with horticultural skills is back behind bars after being caught with cannabis worth more than £58,000 in his Dundee home.
Kevin Martin, 36, allowed others to use his address on Milnbank Road to store almost 100 plants and bags of herbal green matter.
In September 2018, Martin was locked up at Dundee Sheriff Court for more than a year after putting skills learned from horticultural studies to criminal use.
Dozens of plants were discovered during a raid on the flat on Rosefield Street that was solely used to grow cannabis.
Martin has now been hit with another prison term after he previously admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class B drug between August 2022 and January 2023.
Drugs raid
The same court was told how Martin – who also has convictions relating to disorder and weapons – was living alone at the Milnbank Road property.
Prosecutor Ewan Chalmers said previously: “As a result of intelligence received, officers attended at the flat on January 5 2023 with a search warrant.
“A number of green bags of green herbal matter were recovered from the kitchen and bedroom on view and within cupboards.
“Also recovered from the living room and cupboard in the bedroom were 94 plants.”
The plants and herbal matter had a maximum potential street value of £58,600.
Officers also discovered a tick list in a safe, growing equipment and mobile phones containing incriminating messages.
‘Another person involved’ claim
Jim Laverty, defending, said it was always Martin’s position another person had been involved separately in the offence.
He said: “Mr Martin accepted he had allowed his property to be used in that particular way.
“He was knowledgeable about the situation.
“He has been anxious to explain he was not involved in this on his own.”
Mr Laverty said a stringent community payback order would adequately punish and rehabilitate Martin who, he said, has suffered addiction issues in recent years.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael said: “You have previous convictions for possessing cannabis and being concerned in the supply of cannabis but you failed to change your ways.
“There’s no alternative to a custodial sentence.”
Martin was jailed for 11 months.
