Fintry man accused of historic child sex offences

Glasgow High Court.
Glasgow High Court.

A Fintry man appeared at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday accused of a string of sexual offences against children in the 1990s.

Alan Hardie, 60, is accused of committing a number of attacks on two women – who cannot be named due to the nature of the alleged assaults – who were children at the time.

Hardie, of Fintryside, pleaded not guilty to three charges against him at the High Court in Glasgow before Lady Scott on Tuesday morning.

The first charge alleges that on various occasions, between August 1993 and January 1991, at an address on St Boswell’s Terrace in Downfield, he conducted lewd, libidinous and indecent practices towards a child by performing a sex act in front of them.

The charge further alleges he induced the girl into performing an oral sex act on him, that he made her watch a pornographic film and sexually assaulted her.

The second and third charges allege that at the same address, between May 1991 and April 1998 and April 1998 and January 1999 respectively, Hardie carried out lewd, libidinous and indecent practices on a second girl, then also under the age of 16.

Lady Scott fixed a five day trial to be undertaken at the High Court in Edinburgh on September 10.

Hardie’s bail was continued and he was ordained to appear at the Edinburgh High Court on that date.
