Man charged with robbing and assaulting pensioner, 82, for £90 on Dundee street

Dundee Sheriff Court.

A 40-year-old man has appeared in court accused of robbing and assaulting an elderly man in a residential Dundee street.

David Cahill, of Laing Place, appeared on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday accused of one charge relating to the alleged incident on September 1, which was said to have happened near Tannadice Park in Arklay Street.

It is claimed that Cahill assaulted Henry Hamilton, aged 82, approaching him from behind, pushing him on the body and knocking him to the ground to his injury.

He then allegedly robbed the man of his wallet and £90 in cash.

Cahill was said to have committed the alleged offence while subject to a bail order which was imposed at Dundee Sheriff Court on April 9.

His case was continued for further examination yesterday and he made no plea or declaration.

An appeal for information was launched by police on Monday after reports that an elderly man was robbed at around 6pm on Sunday.

Officers said a witness came to the aid of the man shortly after the alleged attack.

The passerby was said to have helped the pensioner to his feet.

Initially the man was unable to provide a description of his alleged assailant, as the incident was said to have happened quickly and the pensioner did not manage to see much.

The police thanked the public for their assistance with the matter.
