Dundee dealer who had £10k of cannabis on A90 moved drugs to help pay for next tattoo

Perth Sheriff Court.

A dealer caught with nearly £10,000 worth of cannabis took on the job of transporting the drug to pay for his next tattoo.

Daniel Weir told a court he had no problems with money but was raising extra funds to have another tattoo inked on his body.

Weir was jailed for 15 months after Perth Sheriff Court heard how he was caught in his car with just under a kilo of the class B drug.

The 28-year-old, of Balunie Drive, Dundee, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis on the A90 northbound on January 21.

Depute fiscal Mairi Graham told the court: “Police stopped a car on the A90, having received intelligence there were drugs being taken from Glasgow to Dundee.

“Weir was the driver and he had £520 cash. A police dog gave an indication towards the boot. There was a vacuum-packed package containing 995 grams of cannabis.

“His mobile phone had text messages consistent with having travelled to Glasgow to collect the drugs. It was not clear what he was to be paid or would do with the cannabis.”

Solicitor Mike Short, defending, said: “He does have tattoos and the £300 he was paid was to be used towards a tattoo.”

Sheriff Gillian Wade noted that Weir was on bail at the time and jailed him for 15 months.
