A Broughty Ferry computer company is repairing old computers to donate for locals to access technology during the lockdown.
Home Computer Support, based in Barnhill, have been bringing the community together by collecting old and unwanted tech equipment.
The computers, laptops and tablets are repaired before being loaned out in an effort to help schoolchildren and the elderly stay connected.
The team have been flooded with donations from around Dundee.
The company launched its support and repair service in January 2019 and has since adapted to a remote phone system to help mend technical issues from afar.
Malcolm Campbell, the firm’s managing director, said the staff have been amazed by the generosity of locals.
He said: “We realised quickly that there were a lot of families out there who don’t have access to computers and aren’t in a position to buy a new one as they have essentials like food to buy.
“With schools being off, some kids don’t have the equipment to work from home and they can’t access things like their Glow account.
“We’ve also helped elderly people who need to stay in touch with friends and family.
“All we ask is that they look after the devices and when they’re finished with them, we’ll pick them up, do another data cleanse and then they will go out again to someone who needs it.
“The community have been remarkable – it gives you a bit of hope when you see people coming together.
“We can’t believe the amount of things that are donated – we had a lovely lady in Dundee donate three iPads and 3 Amazon tablets so we were overwhelmed.
“Most things donated are barely in working order, so we fix it up and make sure it reaches the people who need it most.
“We donated a laptop out to a nurse in the Covid ward at Ninewells as her son didn’t have a laptop and couldn’t do any work.
“It was a nice feeling, especially with her being NHS staff, it felt like we were doing the right thing.”
