Selfish golfers have come back under fire for being out on the fairways of Dundee’s closed down Camperdown course.
A weekend walker has revealed he came close to being hit more than once by fully-kitted out players ignoring the ban on the sport and the fact the fairways there shut for good weeks ago due to council cost-cutting measures.
The man, who lives near the park, said: “I had two golf balls fired over my head when I was out walking.
“We were actually walking towards one guy and he could obviously see us, but he just let fly.
“I’m worried about confronting these people for what might happen, but it’s obvious that there are golfers who are just ignoring the rules and the fact Camperdown is no longer open for golf.
“These are not golfers who have just gone out with a club to hit a few balls, they have their full gear and trolleys.
“I saw one of them even had his GPS range finder. We had a seat near what was the 18th green and there was also a guy pitching there.”
The walker added: “There were a lot of people walking in the park on Saturday, and the car park up the top was absolutely full of cars.
“Apart from the course not being open for golf any longer, when there are people walking in the area it’s pretty dangerous.”
The weekend incident is the latest in a series of reports of players taking to the Camperdown course in defiance of government guidelines.
Dundee City Council closed it for good at the end of March, and had also shut Caird Park during the pandemic, with flags removed and holes filled with sand.
A council spokesperson said: “We would ask people to follow national advice and if anyone has any concerns they should contact Police Scotland.”
