Coronavirus: Dundee lockdown parking enforcement to be ‘ramped up’

Illegal or inconsiderate parking in Dundee is to be targeted during lockdown.
Illegal or inconsiderate parking in Dundee is to be targeted during lockdown.

Traffic wardens are to be back in force on Dundee’s streets in a clampdown on dangerous parking.

Council chiefs say enforcement will be ramped up in response to inconsiderate parking across the city, warning that the pandemic is not an excuse to ignore double yellow lines.

Parking attendants were scaled back as a result of the lockdown but will be issuing penalty charge notices to drivers who leave vehicles in dangerous places.

Dundee City Council city development committee convener, Alan Ross said: “There is no excuse for inconsiderate or dangerous parking.

“Double yellow lines are there to ensure that road users are protected from unsafe or thoughtless motorists leaving their vehicles somewhere hazardous.

“I would urge all motorists to drive and park safely and legally.

“The current situation is not an excuse for putting yourself and other road users in danger.”

Parking charges for street bays and council car parks in Dundee remain suspended.

Fife, Angus and Perth and Kinross Councils have also put charges for on-street spaces and car parks on hold during the pandemic.
