Music and football fans will virtually come together this weekend for an online fundraising festival.

Dundee musicians are to perform to raise money to support development football in the city.

Normal cash-boosting activities for Dee Promotions, the group behind fundraising for Dundee Football Club’s youth academy, have been cancelled, forcing them to get creative to keep money flowing.

Local musician Craig Weir is behind the inaugural Deefest online festival and he is one of the performers to take to the virtual stage on Saturday June 6.

He said: “As a musician I’ve been involved in lots of these online gigs during this pandemic.

“I was aware that, like everyone else, Dee Promotions had been forced to cancel all of their upcoming fundraising events and I thought it would make sense to try to step in to help out and pull some musicians together to make this happen”.

The youth development programme at Dundee FC helped launch the careers of players including Cammy Kerr and Craig Wighton.

As well as performances from Craig, River City’s Tom Urie and a DJ set from Charlie Duthie,  the festival will feature a raffle and messages from players and staff at Dens Park.

Dee Promotions lottery manager, Alison McQueen, said: “I hope people get involved, buy raffle tickets, help raise money and enjoy the music.”

The event will be streamed from 3pm at www.facebook.com/DeePromotionsDFC
