A young animator has dished up a special treat for school leavers who missed out on saying a proper farewell to their pals.
Dundee High School pupil Andrew Loveday used his imagination and movie-making skills to create a short film for sixth-year leavers whose final school year was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.
The school’s form 1, 2 and 3 health and food technology classes were set the task of creating a dish or some baking as a farewell to the current sixth-year group.
Budding chefs rose to the challenge, but Tayport 15-year-old Andrew went one better to enlist the help of younger sister Zoe, 12, and a toy box treasure to create a permanent movie memento.
Using stop-motion techniques, Andrew shot more than 1,000 frames of an action character taking over the cake baking to make the Farewell to S6 You Tube video for his friends.
“I came up with an idea along the lines of the Elves and the Shoemaker or Toy Story with a fun character coming to life, and used one of my Lego hero toys,” said Andrew.
The technique involves posing the figure and photographing it before repeating the process with tiny movements.
“I then thought it would nice to include Zoe in it as well.
“I really enjoy the process of process of coming up with ideas and producing the finished work, and when I sent it in to my teacher she really liked it, so I hope other people will enjoy it too.”
