A Dundee charity shop had been “swamped” with customers since receiving a donation of designer dresses worth £21,000.
Recently Shelter, a charity that deals with homelessness, had 60 dresses handed into its Perth Road branch.
They went up for sale for £30 each, a fraction of their original price – and proved a fashion hit with shoppers, who have bought up all but three of the dresses in the space of a week, raising around £2000.
Karen Kelbie, Shelter’s shop manager at Perth Road, said: “It’s been great.
“The shop was swamped with customers in the days that followed the piece in The Courier and other media outlets.
“If people did not find a dress in their size or one they liked, most of them bought something else from the shop which contributed to the amazing sales figures.
“A few customers commented that they were going on holiday so were buying the dresses for that.
“One lady was going on a cruise and wanted something glam.
“A few young women came in to buy frocks for their graduation balls.
“Most people went for the dresses but we’ve sold some of the knitwear and other items too, which also came with the dresses.
“It has been good not only for us but for the Perth Road as a whole, as it has attracted people to the area.
“We are always looking for donations so if anybody else wants to donate items then we would welcome that.”
Previously Karen had explained that, in her 20 years at the shop, she had never seen a donation like this.
The dresses were handed in by Prego Boutique in Broughty Ferry, whose owner Liza Sinclair chose to donate to Shelter after hearing about the work the charity do in the community.
As well as dresses, a number of other clothes items were donated to the store including knitwear, skirts, jeans and jackets.
