Empty beer cans and food packaging has been left in a Dundee woods by what appears to be a group of campers.
According to a local member of the community, a three-day camping trip by unknown individuals left part of Templeton Woods trashed.
An image of the debris posted on Twitter shows glass bottles, fizzy juice cans and crisp packets.
John Alexander, convener of Dundee City Council’s neighbourhood services committee, said: “It is always disappointing when people who use our parks and open spaces do not clear up after themselves.
“I would urge everyone who is enjoying the city’s green areas during the warm weather to do so responsibly and think about other people. This means either putting their litter in the bins which are provided at all of our parks or taking it home with them.
“It’s not just people who suffer when debris is left in places like Templeton Woods. It can also have a detrimental effect on wildlife.”
Councillor Kevin Keenan, who represents the area, added he wanted people to be more proactive in keeping the woods clean.
“Most people are responsible, but I’d like the irresponsible people to take their rubbish home with them too,” he said.
“Parks are a places for us all to enjoy so it is disappointing to hear.
“It’s disappointing when people turn up in a nice area for a picnic and there’s rubbish everywhere.
“I’m hoping it wasn’t a group of underage drinkers.
“It’s very difficult with the council’s cuts to do more, so we really do need to rely on people being very responsible and taking their rubbish to bins or home with them.”
There is currently a city-wide initiative encouraging communities to organise litter picking and other clean up events.
Take Pride in your City provides equipment and expertise for the project which aims to prevent litter, dog fouling, fly-tipping and discarded chewing gum from blighting the city.
