It is alleged that on October 20, at Nursery Road, Broughty Ferry, he assaulted Mr Johnston, 53, of Ferry Street in Montrose, by repeatedly punching, stamping, kicking and otherwise striking him on the head with his hands and feet, striking him on the head with a blunt instrument, repeatedly causing his head to strike a wall and the floor and striking him on the head and neck with a knife, murdering him.
The court was told two psychiatric reports were to be obtained, and two doctors from Carstairs were to appear at the next preliminary hearing, on November 26.
