A man who stole clothing from a supermarket made his getaway on a stolen kid’s bike.
Alyn Bradford, 38, of St Kilda Road, then threatened to pour petrol through his ex-girlfriend’s letterbox after she kicked him out in a row over his behaviour.
Bradford had previously admitted the thefts and a further two charges of threatening behaviour and assaulting a police officer, on July 5 this year.
Fiscal depute Gavin Burton told Dundee Sheriff Court Bradford was captured shoplifting and stealing a bike from Asda in Kirkton.
The 13-year-old owner of the bike had left it in the foyer with a friend who went into the shop to buy something, and when they returned one of the bikes was gone.
Bradford arrived at his ex-partner Leanne McLaren’s house and produced a pair of trousers and a pair of shoes which he claimed were from Asda.
When Ms McLaren asked where the bike was from he replied: “From Asda, if people can steal from us I can steal from them.”
He was referring to when they had a bike stolen about a year previously.
Mr Burton said the pair argued about the stolen goods and later she asked him to leave.
He became angry and left the property, shouting at Ms McLaren and her mother: “If you don’t have my stuff out of the loft and at my house in the next four hours I’m going to put petrol through your letterbox and set light to it.”
Mr Burton said: “The women were extremely fearful of the threat as they had lost a brother and a child in a fire before and felt that the accused was playing on this to cause fear and alarm.”
Police were called and found Bradford further down the road at around 8.15pm that night. They spoke to him and put him in the back of a police van, when he became aggressive and attempted to kick a police officer.
Bradford admitted stealing clothing and shoes from Asda on Derwent Avenue on July 5, stealing a bicycle from the same place and at Craigmore Street, behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and repeatedly making threats of violence to his ex-partner.
He further admitted assaulting PC Graham McNaughton by attempting to kick him on the body.
Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC deferred sentence on Bradford until September 28 and continued his bail.
