Woman alleged to have forced open Dundee cash machines to steal £12k from 95-year-old

Woman alleged to have forced open Dundee cash machines to steal £12k from 95-year-old

A woman is to stand trial accused of stealing more than £12,000 from a pensioner in her 90s.

It is alleged that between April 24 and August 25 last year, both dates inclusive, Anne Spence formed a fraudulent scheme to obtain money by stealing a bank card and a personal identification number (Pin) from a house on Balunie Drive.

Spence, 67, of Woodside, Kirkinch, Meigle, is alleged to have forced open bank machines to steal money from the 95-year-old.

The withdrawals were said to have taken place at bank machines at the Asda store on Milton of Craigie Road on 25 different dates, at Tesco on Kingsway West on 17 dates, at the Spar store in Meigle on a further 11 dates and once at the Scotmid store on Clepington Road.

In some cases, the same bank machines are alleged to have been used three days in a row by the accused.

In total, 61 separate withdrawals are alleged to have been made by Spence during the four-month period the crimes are alleged to have taken place.

Spence denies that between both dates, from an address on Balunie Drive and the locations of the automated teller machines, she stole a bank card and a Pin number and used them to open locked ATMs, stealing a total of £12,100.

At an intermediate diet at Dundee Sheriff Court, Sheriff John Rafferty set a further intermediate diet for September 10.

Trial will take place on September 17.

Spence is currently on bail and was not in in court for the intermediate diet.
