A Dundee teenager has denied assaulting both his parents in brutal back-to-back attacks — including “severely injuring” his father with a hammer.
Lewis Buchan is alleged to have carried out the attacks on consecutive days at two different addresses in Dundee.
He is set to go on trial at the city’s sheriff court next month.
Buchan is alleged to have first attacked his mother Ann Hunter at an address in Finglas Street on June 12 2016.
The 19-year-old is accused of seizing his mother by the hair, dragging her across a room and throwing her on to a bed.
He is also accused of then repeatedly striking her head against a wall, to her injury.
The following day, Buchan is alleged to have assaulted his father Charles Buchan.
The offence is alleged to have happened at an address in the city’s Grampian Gardens.
Buchan is alleged to have knocked his father to the ground.
The teenager is accused of then repeatedly punching and kicking him on the head and body.
He then allegedly repeatedly struck his father on the head and body with a hammer, to his severe injury.
The court heard that Buchan claimed he was acting in self-defence on that charge.
Buchan faces further allegations of possessing an offensive weapon — the hammer — two charges of failing to appear in court for scheduled hearings, and breaching bail.
Solicitor John Boyle told the court yesterday: “There is a special defence of self-defence on one of the charges.”
Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin added that the forthcomong trial was expected to last two days.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael fixed the start date of the trial for February 28.
Buchan was remanded in custody in the meantime.
