A man who repeatedly punched a woman on the face in a taxi caused a severe eye injury and the loss of all her upper teeth, Dundee Sheriff Court was told.
James McVey, 46, of Waterstone Road, Brechin, admitted the assault, which happened on the way home from a night out.
McVey admitted that on February 25, in Panmure Street, Monifieth, he assaulted Helen Fraser by repeatedly punching her on the face, causing injury and permanent disfigurement, and her spectacles to break.
McVey claimed he had been hit with a glass and this was accepted by the Crown.
The court heard the accused and his partner were sharing a taxi with two others, including Ms Fraser, and an argument started.
The accused threw punches at Ms Fraser and her eye started bleeding.
Ms Fraser was taken to Ninewells Hospital and the accused stated to police: “What would you do if someone hit you in the face with a glass?”
The court heard the accused had an injury to his face and it was accepted by the Crown that he had been struck, but that Ms Fraser had not been responsible for it.
Ms Fraser was left with a scar on her head between her nose and eye, and a lump on her nose. All her upper teeth had to be removed, costing more than £1,000.
Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentence until December 13 for reports.
