A man has been reported to the procurator fiscal for road traffic offences after a lorry collided with a railway bridge in Broughty Ferry.

People were unable to travel under the railway bridge on St Vincent Street due to the collision which took place on Saturday morning shortly after 9am.

Trains continued to run as normal and a temporary speed restriction, put in place over the bridge for safety reasons, has been lifted.

No one was injured and the road has now been cleared.

The bridge was inspected by Network Rail who said that no issues were identified.

The road is currently blocked and it is not known if anyone is injured.

Network Rail and Police Scotland and a recovery vehicle were all on scene.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “On Saturday morning, a 7.5 tonne lorry struck the railway bridge over St Vincent Street in Broughty Ferry.

“Train services remain running in both directions with a temporary speed restriction of 20mph over the bridge for safety reasons.

“A Network Rail engineer is currently onsite inspecting the bridge and is working alongside the Police and recovery services to remove the lorry as quickly and safely as possible.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.10am on Saturday, April 30, police were called to the St Vincent Street area of Broughty Ferry, following a report of a van colliding with a rail bridge.

“The area was cleared around 11.20am and one man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with road traffic offences.”
