Police are investigating two break-ins at shops in the Dundee area.
The Spar on Glamis Road in the city was targeted in the early hours of Tuesday.
Meanwhile Scotmid has confirmed its store in Invergowrie has also been broken into.
It’s understood police investigating have not ruled out a link between the crimes but no details have been revealed about items stolen.
A sign on the shutters of the Spar said: “Store closed due to unforeseen circumstance.
“We will be open as soon as possible.
“Orleans Place is open for any needs in the meantime.
“Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
Customers concerned by break-in
Eileen McIntosh, a regular customer, says news of the break-in is “concerning”.
The 96-year-old said: “I came down this morning and saw the note on the shutter.
“It’s unfortunate that this has happened. I was aware the shop has been targeted previously.
“It’s concerning given it’s so close to home.”
Another customer says staff and police appeared to be wearing gloves to carry out a search.
He said: “I assume it was maybe a manager or area manager from Spar who was here, and she was wearing blue gloves.
“There were two police vans situated outside the front of the store.
Police investigating break-in and theft
“I’ve seen a fair few customers walking up this morning and turning back.
“It’s only recently been targeted as well.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a break-in to and theft from premises on Glamis Road, Dundee, at around 5.30am on Tuesday.
“Inquires are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0381 of June 14.”
The spokesperson also confirmed the Scotmid incident, which occurred at around 5.34am on Tuesday, is under investigation.
Officers have been seen standing outside the store on Main Street in Invergowrie.
Forensics officers arrived at the scene just after noon.
Early-morning break-in at Scotmid
A spokeswoman for Scotmid Co-operative said: “We can confirm there was a break-in at our Invergowrie store early this morning (Tuesday).
“We will work closely with the police to assist their investigation.”
CJ Laing – which runs Spar – confirmed the Glamis Road store was targeted in the early hours.
A spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident at the Spar on Glamis Road in Dundee in the early hours of 14h June 2022.
“The break-in has been reported to Police Scotland who are investigating.”
