Thieves steal bagpipes from car in Dundee

Post Thumbnail

An opportunistic thief made off with a set of bagpipes and a full Highland dress outfit after breaking into a car parked in Dundee.

The car was parked in Traquair Gardens in  Whitfield between Saturday June 3 and Monday June 5 when the thief struck.

They stole a set of bagpipes with black pipes and a green tartan bag, which were in an antique pine case.

A full set of bagpipes can cost hundreds of pounds, while the full Highland outfit is said to be wroth around £1,000.

They also took a black dinner suit, which was in a Slater Menswear carrier.

A Police Scotland spokesman said pawnshops and members of the public should keep a look out for anyone trying to offload the bagpipes.

A spokesman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “The bagpipes in particular are quite an unusual item to be stolen, and should raise attention if the person responsible tries to sell them on.”

Residents in the quiet residential street were unaware the theft had taken place.

One said: “There aren’t many break-ins up here.”

Another added: “I’ve not seen any police around here. I don’t know anyone who plays the pipes either.”

Anyone with any information that may be useful should contact Tayside Division on 101 quoting CR/14532/17 or speak to any police officer.

Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Earlier this week a 36-year-old man was charged in connection with a series of thefts from cars in the Law area of Dundee.

Several cars had been broken into.
