Organisers of Dundee music festival Carnival 56 have said no decision has yet been taken on whether the event will return next year.
The inaugural festival took place in Camperdown Park in August and thousands of music fans watched star turns including Rudimental, Mark Ronson and Hot Chip.
It was widely credited with filling a gap in the festival market following the suspension of T in the Park and has been nominated in two categories in the UK Festival Awards — best new festival and best medium-sized festival.
Despite the success of the event, no firm decision has yet been made on whether the festival will return for a second year despite Dundee City Council having given approval for each year until 2021.
One source said they believed the festival would return.
They said: “It has LoudSound on board, the top production company in the UK. You don’t get any better than that.
“Everything is in place for the festival to continue and I am confident that it will return next year.”
But an official festival spokeswoman said: “There has been no confirmation of that.
“The debrief process is still under way.”
Festival founder Craig Blyth, meanwhile, has now left the company that set up Carnival 56 following a “fundamental difference of opinion” with fellow director Allan Carnegie.
Mr Blyth said: “It’s disappointing for me to say that I have now parted company with JEM Concerts (Carnival Fifty Six).
“My position within the company that I founded more than two years ago became unsustainable due to a fundamental difference of opinion about how the future of the business should progress.
“I am immensely proud of the event that was delivered by the team in August, and the fact it has now been shortlisted for two UK-wide festival awards comes as no surprise.
“I would like to thank all of the partners, sponsors and customers who put faith in the project from day one, and wish the current team and staff members all the best should the project continue in the future.
“I am now looking for my next challenge and welcome any discussions with contacts or connections around future projects where I can potentially add value.”
