A domestic abuser from Dundee has been convicted of a campaign of violence towards his former partner.
Arslan Ali was unanimously found guilty of three charges he faced following a four day trial at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Jurors found that Ali engaged in a course of abusive conduct between the summers of 2021 and 2023.
He held a hot pan against the woman’s arm, leaving her scarred for life, the court heard.
After the jury returned their verdict, Sheriff Alistair Carmichael told them: “All sentences are possible.”
Catalogue of abuse
Ali, of Craigie Drive in Dundee, was convicted of offending towards his former partner at various addresses in the city.
During that time, he was found to have acted aggressively, shouted and swore at her and called her abusive names.
The 48-year-old had on multiple occasions told her to leave her own home.
He repeatedly punched her on the head and would hit walls and doors.
Ali threatened to kill the woman, repeatedly accused her of being unfaithful, repeatedly refused to leave her home when asked and kicked a stool against a wall, damaging it.
He attended at her home uninvited, refused to accept the end of their relationship and asked to reconcile.
His conduct left the woman permanently disfigured, however jurors decided the woman wasn’t injured.
Child assaults
Ali was also convicted of assaulting two young children on various occasions between 2020 and 2023.
Jurors unanimously agreed that Ali repeatedly struck the youngsters on the head and body with both his hand and a TV control.
Sheriff Carmichael deferred sentencing until July 17 and ordered background reports.
He continued Ali’s bail.
At the sentencing hearing, the sheriff will also consider whether or not to impose a non-harassment order.
After Ali had left the court, Sheriff Carmichael told the jury of six men and nine women that all sentencing options were open to the court.
