A 16-day programme of events and activities in Dundee to highlight and end violence against women launched at the weekend.
Among them is the annual Reclaim the Night march, which aims to take a stand against street sexual harassment and exploitation.
Demonstrators, banners, music and dance will take over the city centre on Thursday night, starting from 6pm.
The event, which is child-friendly, will begin in the Maryatt Hall where speakers will address the participants.
The campaign is organised by Dundee’s Violence Against Women Partnership and is part of a worldwide push to raise awareness of gender-based aggression.
Ann Hamilton, independent chair of the Dundee Violence Against Women Partnership, said: “This year the programme contains the usual mix of entertaining, thought-provoking, educational and participatory events for professionals and the public.
“For me the highlights will include the Reclaim The Night March on Thursday, November 30, and the public lecture by Anni Donaldson, who is a specialist in domestic abuse and violence against women research, policy, service provision and teaching, on December 5.
“Violence against women and girls is unacceptable in any form and will not be tolerated in Dundee. I would call on everyone to support the campaign by taking part in the 16 days of activism in any way they can.”
Running from Saturday, the International Day of No Violence Against Women, to December 10 which is Human Rights Day, the campaign will emphasise that violence against women is a violation of human rights.
This year the theme is “leave no one behind: end violence against women and girls” and includes a range of events to attract people living in Dundee, as well as professionals working in the field.
The 2017 international campaign aims to highlight the activities of women in the Middle East, focusing on Lebanon, where women are leading a wave of change, including a focus on the Syrian refugee crisis.
