Flights at Dundee Airport could be grounded over the festive period unless a strike by air traffic controllers can be averted.
Controllers working for Highlands and Islands Airport, which runs Dundee Airport, are demanding a 10% rise in pay, which they say would bring their pay into line with other air traffic controllers in the UK.
However, HIAL has offered the same 2% rise it is offering to all staff.
Trade union Prospect said there is near-unanimous support for industrial action unless an agreement can be reached.
They will meet with HIAL management on Thursday for further talks.
David Avery, Prospect negotiations officer said: “There is an international shortage of air traffic controllers.
“HIAL rates of pay have fallen significantly behind the other air traffic providers in the UK and this is now having an impact on operations. Members want HIAL to address this issue now before they fall even further behind.
A HIAL spokesman said: “Hial made a pay award offer to all staff which was accepted following an overall ballot of trade union members and paid to everyone at the end of September, backdated to April 1.
“Prospect ATC members were balloted separately and rejected the pay settlement.”
HIAL is a Scottish Government-owned company that operates Dundee, Inverness, Sumburgh, Kirkwall, Wick John O’Groats, Stornoway, Benbecula, Barra airports, Tiree, Islay and Campbeltown airports.
