Three appliances were sent to tackle the blaze on the first floor of Irvine’s Square, at the bottom of Soapwork Lane, at about 3.30pm. The building was evacuated and firefighters, police and ambulance crews were sent to the scene. A witness said that two people were being treated for smoke inhalation.
